IMPORTANT NOTICE: In the first post of this series, I made the
mistake of equating nontechnical people with the stereotype of the
technicallyilliterate grandmother. Some members of the data
science community brought to my attention the sexism and ageism
behind this popular trope. They are completely correct. As a woman,
I would never want to undercut anyone in my community,
especially femaleidentifying people, and/or older professionals.
Without a doubt, us younger women could not have gotten to where
we are today without the hard, and ofteninvisible, work of those
before us.
In that vein, this second post is dedicated to all the grandmothers
out there who taught their (grand)children linear algebra while
fighting microaggressions in boardrooms; to the older women
pushing to be taken seriously when
